MISSION AND HISTORY
To provide food, referral information and financial assistance to individuals and families in need within our service area.
Hunger is the problem. Together we are the solution.
Foothills Food Bank has been working to end food poverty for more than 30 years. We are focused on helping community members overcome their circumstances by providing immediate support through food and supplies and by aiding them in reaching a goal of independence and a return to self-sufficiency.
In Arizona, 918,940 people are facing hunger –
and of them 288,950 are children.
Inclusiveness and Diversity Statement
Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center has a policy promoting inclusiveness and its staff, board and volunteers reflect diversity in order to enrich its programmatic effectiveness. The Foothills Food Bank and Resource Center promotes inclusiveness in its hiring, retention, promotion, board recruitment and constituencies served.
We know that together we can do better.
We’ve all heard that little growl in our stomach and remember that it’s been a few hours since we’ve eaten. Maybe we drive through a fast-food restaurant or take a short walk into the kitchen and grab a snack. But not everyone has options. In Arizona, one in six children face hunger and food insecurity and one in eight adults do as well.
HISTORY
The Foothills Food Bank was started by a small group of passionate local volunteers in 1988 in Cave Creek, Arizona. Their purpose was simple; provide food to families in the neighborhood who were in need. Thanks to support from generous community members, area businesses and volunteers, our service area has exploded to cover more than 225 square miles in Northern Maricopa and Southern Yavapai counties. From less than 150 visits a month in 1988 to more than 1500 people a month in 2021, the demand continues and thanks to our community support, we continue to meet the needs of our neighbors, and provide resources for those in need.
